The Garden route adventure starts in George where a scenic drive will be taken. This amazing 6-day adventure will give take you through the beautiful Western Cape where you will get to experience the beauty of the Garden Route where many activities such as Bungee jumping, zip-lining, and many more are available to you. You will also get to take in the amazing sights, sounds, tastes, and cultures of Cape Town city!
Your 6-day Garden Route tour begins in George. From there, you’ll enjoy a scenic coastal drive to Knysna. This route is known for its breathtaking views of the Indian Ocean, lush forests, and rolling mountains. It’s a stunning start that sets the tone for the rest of your journey.
Once you arrive in Knysna, you’ll check into your accommodation near the lagoon. After settling in, you’ll have some free time to explore the town.
Start by strolling through Knysna’s charming town center. Then, admire the peaceful lagoon views or grab a bite at a local seafood restaurant. You might also browse a few unique boutiques or step into a cozy art gallery.
In short, Knysna is the perfect place to unwind. Its relaxed atmosphere makes it an ideal first stop on your South African road trip.
After a hearty breakfast, your adventure begins with a visit to the famous Knysna Heads viewpoint. These towering sandstone cliffs mark the entrance to the Knysna Lagoon. From the top, you’ll enjoy panoramic views where the calm lagoon meets the open sea. It’s a peaceful spot to take photos and soak in the raw coastal beauty of Knysna.
Next, we travel to Tsitsikamma National Park. This area is a top highlight of the Garden Route for nature lovers. Here, you’ll enjoy a scenic forest walk through ancient trees and along the rugged coastline. The trails lead to suspension bridges and dramatic ocean views. Along the way, look out for bushbuck, birds, or even dolphins in the waves.
In the afternoon, we stop at Bloukrans Bridge, the highest commercial bungee jump in the world. If you’re seeking adrenaline, this is your moment. You can take the leap or try the zipline across the gorge. If you’d rather watch, the panoramic views of Bloukrans Gorge are just as thrilling.
To end the day, we return to Knysna for a sunset lagoon cruise. As the sun dips behind the hills, you’ll glide across calm waters and pass through peaceful channels. It’s the perfect way to relax and reflect after a full day of adventure.
Today, we leave behind the coastal charm of Knysna and head inland to Oudtshoorn, the ostrich capital of South Africa. This small town lies in the heart of the scenic Klein Karoo, a dry region known for its unique wildlife and dramatic landscapes.
Our first stop is the Cango Caves, one of the oldest tourist attractions in South Africa. Here, you’ll join a guided tour of the limestone caverns. These caves feature impressive stalactites and stalagmites, along with vast underground chambers. Your guide will share fascinating stories about the caves’ geology, ancient human use, and local legends.
After the caves, we visit a working ostrich farm in Oudtshoorn. You’ll get up close with these giant birds, learn about their history in the region, and even feed an ostrich by hand. This hands-on activity is especially fun for families, kids, and animal lovers.
Later in the day, you’ll check in at the Mooiplaas Guesthouse & Spa, a peaceful retreat surrounded by the wide-open Karoo plains. You can relax with a spa treatment, take a leisurely walk through the quiet countryside, or simply sit back and enjoy the starry night sky.
It’s the perfect way to end a day full of discovery in the Klein Karoo.
On Day 4, we leave the lush Garden Route and begin the scenic drive from Knysna to Cape Town. This stretch is one of South Africa’s most iconic road trips, filled with dramatic landscapes and coastal views.
Along the way, we stop in Mossel Bay for lunch. This charming seaside town is known for its relaxed vibe and oceanfront setting. It’s the perfect place to stretch your legs, enjoy fresh seafood, and take in the views of the southern coastline.
For those craving adventure, there’s an optional safari at Botlierskop Private Game Reserve, just outside Mossel Bay. This malaria-free reserve offers a chance to spot Big Five wildlife like lions, elephants, and rhinos. You can choose between a game drive or a horseback safari—both are unforgettable ways to experience the wild side of the Garden Route.
After lunch or your safari adventure, we continue our drive west toward Cape Town. We aim to arrive by late afternoon or early evening. Once in the city, you’ll check into your Cape Town accommodation. Whether you’re staying in the city center, near the V&A Waterfront, or close to Camps Bay Beach, you’ll be in the heart of it all.
Spend your evening unwinding or exploring nearby highlights. From boutique shops and local eateries to mountain and ocean views, Cape Town offers the perfect mix of relaxation and urban energy.
Start your day at Table Mountain, one of the New7Wonders of Nature. Take the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway to the summit and enjoy 360-degree views of Cape Town, the Atlantic Ocean, and nearby mountains. Whether you stroll, snap photos, or relax, this is a must-do experience.
Next, explore the Cape Winelands, known for historic wine estates and stunning scenery. Visit a famous winery in Stellenbosch or Franschhoek for a guided wine tasting and learn about South Africa’s winemaking heritage.
Then, tour a working vineyard. Walk through the vines, discover the winemaking process, and experience the unique terroir. Each winery offers distinct wines with special flavour profiles.
Finish the day at a boutique winery. Unwind with a final tasting while taking in peaceful views of rolling vineyards and mountain landscapes. It’s the perfect end to a day of wine tasting near Cape Town.
Start your final day with a drive along Chapman’s Peak Drive, one of the world’s most scenic coastal roads. Enjoy towering cliffs and stunning Atlantic Ocean views—perfect for photos.
Next, explore the Cape of Good Hope in Table Mountain National Park. Hike rugged trails, spot wildlife like baboons and antelope, and take in dramatic coastal landscapes.
Then, visit Boulders Beach to see the endangered African penguin colony up close. Watch these charming birds waddle on the sand and swim in turquoise waters surrounded by granite boulders.
Afterwards, stop in Simon’s Town, a historic naval village with a relaxed harbourfront, local shops, and cozy cafés.
